Let's look at more concrete examples than these averages. A house with no vegetation within 30 metres, with panels inclined at least 15° to the ground, experiencing heavy rain but generally dry weather, could lose less than 5% of its efficiency after 3 years without cleaning.
On the other hand, a house in the middle of a forest, with a fir tree less than 20 metres from the system, and with little heavy rain and damp weather throughout the year, could lose up to 40% of its efficiency after 2 years.
Most of the time, you'll find yourself in the middle of these extremes, not needing a semi-annual cleaning, but rather an annual or biennial one.
